We decided to take the dogs for a walk over Ashridge Estate today while it was still dry. It did rain ever so slightly when we very first arrived, but luckily it didn't last more than a few minutes. The forecast for the next few days (week!) is for rain, so glad we were able to take the opportunity while we could. We had originally planned to go to Audley End, but unfortunately were running a bit late as DH had some business to attend to first, so went somewhere a little closer.
The dogs enjoyed themselves.
We walked in the opposite direction this time to what we normally do. A much easier walk, with wide clear track all the way. Which was good for Percy, but lacked a little bit of interest for us.
We always stop and have a little lunch first before we walk and shared a slice of peach and blueberry cake. DH was disappointed I didn't get the usual carrot cake that we get when there, but I didn't see it until after I had asked for the Blueberry.
There is a second hand book shop in the NT building so I had a quick browse and came home with five books of interest to me. Derek Tangye as I want to try and build up the whole collection of his books. I need to take stock of what I do have now.
Well the afternoon seems to have whizzed by, and it is now time to start thinking about what to do for dinner!
Your walk looks lovely - glad you mostly managed to dodge the rain, it's been non-stop lately hasn't it.
ReplyDeleteI'd struggle to choose between carrot cake or peach and blueberry and would probably buy both lol.
I've never heard of Derek Tangye so just looked him up quickly. They're the sort of books I'd probably like as they're based on real life. Are they very animal based or general day to day life? xx
In the past we might have gone for both, and then shared half of each, but I am being really strict with myself now which is actually paying dividends.
DeleteDerek Tangye also writes about day to day life on his flower farm in Cornwall, the people that worked on the farm, villagers, visitors, and of course the animals. I really enjoy his books. A time when life was quite different to what it is now. I'll try and go through my books this weekend and if I have a duplicate I would be happy to send you one :)
That's really kind of you. I shall start looking out for them anyway as I'm sure I'd really enjoy them. xx
DeleteNow there was a blast from the past, loved our walks around Ashridge. As beautiful as New Zealand is, I still think that you can beat the British countryside
ReplyDeleteI thought you might enjoy this post if you saw it Sue as I remember you saying before. Yes they are both very beautiful in their own way aren't they? Different, but parts are similar.
