Land, Sea & Air

I was delighted to see two cormorants on what I now think of as 'Cormorant Rock' as I approached from a different direction this morning on my walk.  

As I got round the corner to where I can sit on the cliff edge there was only one, the juvenile bird.

Looking this way and that.

I am amazed it could keep its balance at times as the wind was certainly blowing.

In the distance I could see the Ventnor (?) Coastguard boat.

As I was walking home I was glancing up into the trees and spotted a Jay who was unaware I was watching him.

Such a richness of colours.

This one is actually from early yesterday evening, but it is surprising just how many ferries I still see...I am hoping they are just transporting cargo now and not people continually!

This morning there was a HUGE ship on the horizon.  I looked it up on the Marine Traffic and it is a Container Ship carrying Hazard A (Major) Cargo. Length Overall by Breadth Extreme: 400 x 58.8 m and the name MOL Trust 

I could also see a smaller ship, (although still big) , with the small coast guard boat in the corner.  

There seemed a bit of air traffic today and I saw two planes, although only photographed the one.

A Hawk

A crow decided to chase it off....obviously got too near its territory.

I need to get a plant identification book as there are so many beautiful plants in this garden that I have no idea what they are called.  This little bell type flower is actually very tiny indeed, but oh so pretty.

I needed to strim this area today.  Once my elbow length gloves arrive I will get in closer to the plants to also pull out the nettles.

It is a bit neater now, I also did between the grapes on the upper bank.

I planted out the sugar snap peas, a bit like the means.  Hope it works.

I am looking forward to harvesting these.

The tomato seedlings are still tiny.

I need to work out where to put the rest of the cucumbers.  I already have six seedlings planted in the green house.  There are some tall plants in with them, and the tomato plants.  Not sure what they are?

Any ideas?  Not sure why they have come up in these two trays.

The salad leaves are looking good.

My Dalmation beans are growing, but sadly nothing from the Blue Lake beans is showing yet.  These are the second lot of seeds I have sown, so I suspect they are just not going to grow sadly.

I had a delivery from the garden centre today.  I had tried to phone them to add to the order, but it is very hard to get through.  I ordered two mixed trays of bedding plants, but got two trays of lobelia, two different varieties) which was a little disappointing.  There are six tomato plants, a tray of cauliflower and a tray of onions.

Five bags of compost and some extra long bamboo poles. which I have already started to use - substituting the smaller poles I had for the beans for the longer ones.

In the top vegetable bed in the orchard, the potatoes are starting to show which is exciting.

I planted out my geranium that I got the other day from a plant stand down the road that sells plants to raise money for sea rescue.  I put some of the lobelia plants round the edge of the pot.

This boot I got for Christmas a couple of years ago from my son and daughter in law.  Not planted anything in it before, so put a lobelia plant in it.  I also added some lobelias to the hexagon wooden planters I have.

All in all a pretty busy day, but with time to sit with a cuppa and read my book in my favourite spot.
