Farringford Gardens

Now the summer holidays are over and the island is quieter, it is time to get out and explore a bit more.

We last went to Farringford Garden's, the home of Alfred, Lord Tennyson in August 2019, during an impromptu week away, and the week we bought our house on the island!  It was nice to be able to go back and have a lovely wander around.

We are looking forward to when the house opens to visitors next year as it has been fully restored, and sounds like it will be really interesting to look around.

The gardens were looking beautiful

A very pleasant way to spend an afternoon.

We had previously had lunch at The Pearl and was most impressed by the quality of the food, very fresh and delicious.

Tuesday

A seat to sit and read whilst listening and looking at the sea.

A grey and cloudy day, but still warm enough to sit out.

Watching the Cormorants

and the interplay between them.

Rocks seen on the beach...and a passion fruit skin.

Rubbish as well unfortunately

A Small Tortoiseshell Butterfly

An Oedemera nobilis beetle.

Large crack in the ground

Erosion

Fence line just hanging on by a thread.

Another spot I sat and read for a while...

Back at home

Watching.... so refreshing, no PC nonsense, no malice intended, just plain good fun.

Tomatoes growing.

Still no sign of my parcel and Hermes proving to be impossible to contact.  Very frustrating.

Tuesday Walk - Bonchurch Landslip

I had a lovely walk today.  I actually drove to the walk, as I knew I wouldn't have the stamina to walk from home.  I stupidly paid the £2.50 fee parking only to then be told by someone that parking is currently free during the coronavirus crisis.  Oh well...

I hadn't done this walk before, but thought it would be a cooler place to walk due to the shelter of the bush.  I was right it was really lovely.

Such pretty start to the walk, this looked promising.

Down....

....looking back.

A pretty foxglove

Now this is something I grew in my Hertfordshire Garden, but don't have any down here.

Rhododendron.

A wishing seat!

Lovely woods.

A glimpse of the sea.

Ships at anchor - I think I counted about seven!

Little plumes of smoke coming from them, and you could hear a rumble. I guess they have their engines ticking over.  I've duplicated some of the photos as I took one with each camera.  Amazing how the colours come out so different.

A small speed boat.

It was such a strange sight.

The sky was incredibly blue.

Monks Bay.

There were a few people making the most of the good day, but all sensibly away from each other.  No large groups like I saw Bank Holiday Friday BEFORE lockdown was eased.

It was a really lovely beach.

I didn't stay there for long, just had a walk along the beach and the concrete boardwalk and back as it was so hot.

Back up - steps!

A different route back.

More steps going up.

Devils Chimney

Looking back down.

A different view of the ships.

I think I am in danger of becoming a ship spotter/anorak...or whatever they may be called!

A lovely tea garden, closed of course.

Would be a lovely place to come and enjoy a cream tea I am sure.

I am not sure what this building is.  I suspect a lookout point at some point in the past.

Shortly after this I was back at the car park so I made my way home for lunch.

A really lovely walk out and a perfect walk to avoid the heat of the day.

Amazing to think last week I could hardly walk down to the end of the driveway!
