Walking: Coastal Path

After working hard in the garden Monday morning I decided to go for a walk along the coastal path in the afternoon.  It was overcast, but I was hopeful the rain would stay away.  Of course as was typical when I got to Steephill Cove the rain started, and I had to walk home an hour in the rain, to say I looked like a drenched rat was probably an understatement!  But it was a good walk and I enjoyed myself.  I dried off and lit the fire and soon warmed up.

Coastal erosion.

One of the bays I walked down, that I hadn't been down to before.

Old machinery - for some kind of lift I wonder?

Walking along the beach, all to myself.

Water running down the bank.

I hadn't been down to Orchard Bay before either so went down.

The rocks were very slippery though so not easy to get down there once you left the wooden steps.

A house with a view for sure!  Not sure I'd want to live that close to the elements.

Fossil?

Shells amongst the pebbles.

More fossils?

I'm pretty sure this was an ammonite - hasn't photographed especially well, but it certainly felt like one.

The old incinerator from the days of The Royal National Hospital.

Hop growing.

It will be interesting to see the difference later on in the year.

This was the last photo I took as by the time I got down to  Steephill Cove it had started to rain and I didn't want to get my camera out and get it wet.

  1. A good walk. I wouldn't like to live that near the sea either...give me a good 400 feet above sea level!!
I would love to see how the different colored sands would change glazes .
    Yes, fossils!

    1. I thought they were fossils. :) There are a lot in this area. I was speaking to a young man who is studying Palaeontology at University on one of my walks and he showed me some of the amazing fossils he has found along the coast line here. Fascinating.

  2. What a wonderful place to explore. It is great being able to go along with you on your walk, although I am sorry you got wet on your way home.

    1. Yes I would imagine it would be pretty impressive in that house at times. I am guessing it is probably a holiday home, but I don't know for sure.

  4. It's good to see your new surroundings. Especially as they are completely unknown to me. The teasel in the last photo brings back memories. My Mum always had a big vase of them in the house.

    1. Glad you are enjoying the posts Graham. I've been a bit slow to reply and to look on other blogs at the moment as making the most of the opportunity to be outside, and then are too tired in the evenings to want to spend any time on the computer. I was tempted to bring some of the teasels home. I must take a bag next time so I can.

  5. I'm popping by to see how you're doing. You've moved!! The trouble with the movers and the damage that was done is very unfortunate.
By the looks of it you have wonderful places to walk not far from your new place. Are you now living on the Isle of Wight?
