Mothering Sunday.

Happy Mothering Sunday.

I got a lovely text message from my son who is currently on board a ship in Singapore and my lovely daughter in law who is in Hertfordshire.  I managed to get a card a couple of weeks ago to send to my Mum when they have their Mother's Day in May.  Although sadly the way it is looking my Dad won't be able to take it to her to read it and show her it. A very Happy Mother's Day to my lovely Mother in Law too.

It has been a lovely sunny Sunday so I spent quite a bit of it in the garden.

I have sowed some more seeds in the glass house, and laid out the butterfly mat and sowed some butterfly and bee attracting seeds in the patch I prepared the other day.

In the afternoon I dug a couple of trenches in the top garden and planted the potatoes out.

I'm thinking of extending that plot of land to the right of the prepared ground another few feet which will mean I have to move the metal bin, not so easy by myself and also move my various piles - the wood, carpet and metal, but at least it will give me some more vegetable growing space.

I dug over one of the raised beds and that is now ready for when the seedlings in the glasshouse are ready to be planted out.

The grape vines are rather overrun with grass so I got out the strimmer and started clearing round them.

Still quite a bit of clearing to do though.

The vines on the bank look a bit better.  Just a shame they are wine grapes, as I don't like wine!  Although I might give making some a try if we get enough grapes.

The bank needed strimming as well.

I also started on the orchard and that is starting to look neater as well.

So that is how I spent my day.  How did you spend yours?

I think growing our own vegetables is going to take on a new importance in the weeks and months to follow.  I was planning on doing this anyway, so I'm pleased I have the garden to be able to do so, but even small gardens can plant out vegetables, whether it be in trugs, pots or other receptacles...no space is really too small.  Getting outside and working in the garden is good for the mind and body as well...at least I am trying to convince my body it is!

Have a good week all, stay healthy and safe.

Oh and I saw another Green Woodpecker this morning in the garden as I opened my bedroom curtains!

  1. Good going with the gardening, I'd like to see it when it's finished.

  2. Great to see your garden developing. In 1987 when the economy went into recession everyone took up growing food - I think the same may happen again now. Take care, Mxx

    1. Thank you. Yes I think more and more people will have to take up growing food... Certainly worrying times. You take care too. I hear NZ is going into Lock down on Wednesday.

  3. I spent mine indoors doing household chores and writing letters as the weather was not as clement as yours. I'd spent Friday and Saturday in the garden power washing and getting rid of moss and doing general maintenance. Plenty more still to do.

    1. Well at least you made good use of the time indoors Graham. I need to get some letter writing done as received a lovely long letter from a friend on Friday that I need to reply to.

There is always work to do outside in the garden isn't there?
