Isle of Wight - Freshwater Bay & Brook Bay

After we left Allum Bay, we drove to Freshwater Bay and stopped at The Piano Cafe for Tea/Coffee and Cake.  A very tasty piece of cake it was as well.

Just down the road from the cafe is this lovely thatched St Agnes' Church.  This church is the only thatched church on the Isle of Wight.  It was built after Lord Tennyson's son donated land on which to have the church built and has been there for more than 100 years.

After our enjoyable cake and drink we headed towards Brook Bay, stopping off on the way to take in some of the sights.

Arriving at Brook Bay, we headed down to the beach with the dogs.

On this beach there can be found evidence of fossilised dinosaur footprints and other fossils and apparently also the remains of a petrified forest, although we didn't find it.

Again the rich earthy orange colours of the surrounding cliffs were astounding.  Especially when  in contrast with the clear blue sky.

The dogs enjoyed running and playing on the beach.

We enjoyed watching the sun set again - I don't think we could ever tire of this.

Going...

Going...

Gone!

A lovely thatched cottage on the opposite side of the estuary where we walked down to the bay.

Isle of Wight - Allum Bay

The second morning of our holiday dawned bright and sunny so we headed off to Allum Bay.

On the way there we stopped at a look out - just fantastic views.

The Needles in the distance.

The jetty at Allum Bay.

Walking down the steps...

Someone decided to take a little shut eye.

Stanley seemed reluctant to continue down...

Finally he decided that maybe he would follow Percy down.

A couple fishing.

Beach huts in the far distance.

The cliffs were a rich variety of colours.

We spent over an hour or two just meandering along the beach and enjoying the seclusion.

People had written names with white pebbles on the sides of the cliffs.

The dogs decided to do a spot of cliff climbing...they are almost all the way down now, but they went up quite high.

Unfortunately there are still thoughtless people (scum!) who litter as is evidenced by the empty coke bottle.  Next time we will make sure we take a rubbish bag with us to collect rubbish.

Watching a little bird busy on the edge of the rocks.

Seeing the changing shadows as the sun moved across the sky on its way up.

Back at the car park this fox seemed pretty fearless.
