Last Monday in July

It was a wild and windy  yesterday, so I just did a short walk in the afternoon

The blackberries are starting to ripen.  I tried this one, and it was okay, but a little bit sour.

A black bug of some sort.

The tide was in and the waves were crashing against the shore.

Total walked: 2.3 miles

I made myself another face mask.  The only shop I am likely to go in is our local shop/post office, but I thought I'd make an extra mask so I have a couple of spare ones to put in the wash.  This has a space between layers to add a filter insert.

Otherwise it has been a fairly quite day.  No gardening as just a bit too miserable for me to venture out.  Not really raining, just dull and windy with dampness in the air.

4 mm of rain (3.5 of which was overnight)

  1. Love your header. I call ‘em ‘flying lollipops’
A very enjoyable read and I am envious at the quality of your nature shots.

  2. Love the mask! I just wear plain old surgical/dust masks. I've always had them in for woodworking etc but now I have a reasonable stock and just dispose of them after each use. Yours is a good one because it has the proper three layers of material AND it has ducks.😊. I like wearing fairly colourful ties and I'd certainly wear a colourful mask.

I saw on the BBC weather programme this morning that you're having a sunny morning. I wish I could say the same.

    1. Ducks?! They are supposed to be Pukekos! ;) Shame on you Graham for not recognising a bird commonly seen in NZ haha...although I can see they could be mistaken for ducks. I've had quite a few masks from when I have been doing my woodworking, but wanted some washable ones.

  3. I do miss the blackberries that were prolific in the area around our old house for jam making. A joy to see the sea, I love to wander along the beach and coastline.

    1. There are so many blackberries around here I am looking forward to when they are ripe, so I can make jam, freeze some for pies etc in the winter.

  4. I’m eyeing the Blackberry bushes where we walk, each day. Too early to pick right now but I’ll be there when they are ready!
BTW Where were you walking? Sal 😁

  5. What cute fabric for your mask - I can see face coverings becoming fashion accessories :)

    1. Quite possibly, certainly I have seen a lot of colourful ones being advertised on various sites as people have jumped on the face mask making and selling bandwagon. I just couldn't be bothered to go down that route. Would just rather make the odd one for myself or family.

  6. I would love to be sitting and enjoying those crashing waves on this very hot day. Just how far is it from your house to the ocean?

    1. About a 15 minute walk I think. Not far at all.
