The highlight of my walk today was....
...seeing a red squirrel briefly...
...and just managing to capture it as it runs away
or should I say fly?!
A pheasant (male - won't use the correct term, as I'll probably end up with a bunch of spam weirdos otherwise)
A Cormorant on the Rocks - sounds like a drink, but also known as the Isle of Wight Parson
A Kestrel
There were so many butterflies on the the blossom along the coastal path, it was a delight to see.
As well as busy bees.
Gorgeous views.
Pretty wild flowers.
and not so wild flowers.
Back home in the garden...
The peas are looking good.
The peony several more blooms.
I like not having nasty critters and apex predators living in New Zealand, but it would be nice to have a few more of those beautiful butterflies :)
ReplyDeleteYou do have the monarch butterflies though.... :)
Deleteoh the squirrel is so cute but boy is it fast.
ReplyDeleteVery fast! I am lucky I managed to get the blurry shots I did get.
DeleteBottom photo is a beautiful poppy.
ReplyDeleteIt is gorgeous isn't it?!
DeleteNice to see the squirrel. A joy to see the butterflies and bees, another stunning walk.
ReplyDeleteThank you. It was lovely to see the squirrel, albeit a fleeting glance!
DeleteAs always I'm enjoying your post (with my morning coffee today). You made me laugh several times. By the way I think a male pheasant is called a rooster rather than the word you may be thinking of but I think most people call it your word anyway. Then it was the Cormorant on the Rocks. Said with enough confidence in a cocktail bar it might well flummox the bar staff.
ReplyDeleteI've never managed, despita the opportunities, to get the perfect (by my standards0 red squirrel photo. When I actually had one eating a nut several yards away (in Freshfield Nature Reserve near Liverpool) my camera was just a smidgen out of focus. Probably only enough to annoy me however....
Haha, well what do you know, I should have looked up the name of a male pheasant after all, instead of assuming. Glad I made you laugh. A bit of laughter is good.
DeleteHopefully one day I will get a photo of a red squirrel I am proud of...I think I will have to update my camera before then. It has never been the same in my opinion since it went in for a repair. But that is way off yet! I also hope to capture the ever elusive badgers that think it is fun to destroy my garden! My neighbour was saying that they had five visit in daylight only the other day. I have a really good view of my front garden and back garden, and never see them at all, so they most certainly come under the cover of darkness when I am asleep.
Well I'm glad that I have something to be grateful for when comparing our respective gardens: there are no badgers here.
