Wednesday's Walk

This afternoon I drove my car and then I went for a walk along the Brighstone Coastal Path to the Isle of Wight Pearl, across to Chilton Farm, through the fields, into Brighstone, along the Mill Road Footpath and then back along through fields down to where I had parked my car on Military Road.

The old Brighstone Holiday Camp, sadly some of the cabins are rather dilapidated as they are falling down the cliff due to erosion.  I am not sure but I think this campsite may have recently changed hands, so it will be interesting to see what the future holds for it.  It needs a lot of work, but I am sure it also holds a lot of potential for the right owners.

An old Pillbox from 1939 - 1945

Unusual in its construction being of pre-cast concrete panels and bolted together.  Apparently this type of pillbox is rare and it is the only one of its type on the island.  Inside you could see where a machine gun would have been mounted.  It is a bullet proof box with its prefabricated panels bolted together.  It provides an all round defence for light machine gun and rifle.  I hope due to its rareness that steps are being taken to preserve it.

Alongside the hedge the path meanders.

The sound of the water along the mill path was loud as it gushed along.

A lovely walk that got me out of the house which was needed. I did attempt to do some gardening but there was a lot of machinery noise at the back and I couldn't stand it, so best to go out.

  1. That looks like the sort of walk that would leave one feeling refreshed and at peace :)
