My job for tomorrow is to go through the following stacks of books that have been accumulating beside the beds. Some I have read and enjoyed and want to keep, so will need to be put in bookshelves, some I have read, but won't keep so they can go to the charity shop along with some that I have started that I have not enjoyed and given up on. Some are still to be read, probably quite a few in this category. Note to self, do not buy anymore books from CS until these are read! There is a right eclectic assortment here.
Definitely at least one in this pile that will be going - I started it, and in my opinion it was absolute drivel, I am not sure why it didn't make the CS pile straight away!
A basket of books...
I think I have read the Sebastian Faulks book and the Dick Francis book so these will need to go in my book shelf as I keep these two authors.
This is my current 'beside my bed' pile!
I have just such a stack, but it's on the 2-decker table next to the couch. I keep very few books, Goodwill gets most of mine.
ReplyDeleteI keep less books now than I used to. I am much more discerning now and keep those books that are special to me, those that I know that I will keep again, and useful reference books. When I was young it was a real treat to get new books, so I think I treasured them so much more, and have always been an avid reader, but I am much slower nowadays as I am always so tired so fall asleep whenever I start to read!
DeleteThat's some stack of books!! I just counted my "to be read" pile and there are 16 but some are children's books ( that I somehow never read when I was of an age to do so. Like The Secret Garden which I've enjoyed in DVD but not read, and The Dark is Rising series by Susan Cooper.) Like you I don't bother reading a book that doesm't hold my interest. We have a little library in the park where I walk most mornings and that's a good place to put unwanted books. Most people seem to take the books but not return them but enough of us keep adding to the stash. The "library" is an old metal box that was formerly used for newspapers and it keeps out the rain.
ReplyDeleteIt would be nice if we had something like that near us - I like the idea of the little street or community 'libraries' it is a great idea.
DeleteI used to be a librarian, so would really love to have room to have my own 'library' one day!
If you've not yet read Hovel in the Hills you are in for a treat! I've read and re-read it so many times in 30+ years that I know it off by heart!
ReplyDeleteI have some of the books you have - Chelsea Concerto is good and the Susan Hill and all the Nella Lasts
I have started to read Hovel in the Hills, and yes was enjoying it, but must have got distracted, so will probably have to restart it. I think I got the Chelsea Concerto recommendation from your blog a little while ago, so I'm looking forward to reading that.
DeleteThat is quite the collection and quite an eclectic mix. I have a small stash that I have been saving for my holiday so looking forward to it.
ReplyDeleteIt is certainly an eclectic mix! I had hoped to sort them out today, but I just don't feel like it, so will leave it until tomorrow.
DeleteIt's always fascinating looking at other people's books. The very top one Calum's Road was bought for me by a friend. It's a fascinating story but I'm yet to read the book. I notice that you have one of The Ginger Series. I've not seen them in this country although I had one (How to Look at a Painting) which I brought with me from NZ. May and Faulks are favourites of mine although I've not read the ones in the pictures. All in all I think we could cope with each other's book shelves.
