Gosh I haven't blogged for so many days - not sure where they keep disappearing to!
The highlight of my morning was seeing a red squirrel running across my driveway from the garden (and I am guessing the bird feeder with nuts), up onto the bins and then the hedge. Unfortunately I didn't have my camera handy, but it was so exciting to see it. Nice to know that we have them in our location.
Next highlight was spotting a little toad whilst I was trimming one of the hedges near the pond. First toad I have seen here as well.
I forgot to take a before photo, but there were branches sticking up all over the rounded bush.
Much neater now. I also found an old brass fountain underneath it. I will have to clean it up and see if it works.
I decided to tidy up this area at the front of the decking.
After getting that prickly busy tangled up in my hair, which took some getting out I eventually managed to get rid of it and dug it over as best as I could. The ground is still very hard as we have had very little rain.
Some more water lilies.
Love watching the wildlife.
Some photos from Sunday's walk below:
It rained in the morning (15 mm) but the sun came out in the afternoon, so took the opportunity to go for a nice walk. There were others who had the same idea.
Today's walk:
Through the woods.
Down to the beach.
A seat to sit a while
to take in the view, and the sound of the sea.
How wonderful that you kep discovering new things in your garden.
ReplyDeleteIt is fun to discover new things...sometimes you have to wonder why though these things get left to become covered over etc...
Deletewow you've done alot of work, it looks really good.
ReplyDeleteThank you Amy :)
DeleteWhat a treat to see the red squirrel. I think that the IOW is one of the last two bastions for them in the south, the other being Cornwall where there is a program of introducing them on the POW Duchy estate. No greys to give them disease or out compete them. Last time I saw one in the wild was as a young child in Brixham my home town. I’ll never forget it. You’ll have more toads no doubt if you look. The water lilies are delightful. Keep safe, keep smiling and fare the best you can 😀
ReplyDeleteYes we are very lucky hear to have red squirrels and none of the greys. I have seen red squirrels here before but not in my own garden so as you can imagine it was very exciting, I hope I get to see them more often. I have seen some red squirrels in one of the gardens in Cornwall, I can't remember which one - I do believe though they may have been in an enclosure.
DeleteThank you, will do! :)
Lovely pictures of your garden and walk, and I agree the water lilies are so gorgeous! Are you planning to plant something in the front of the decking area you've cleared?
ReplyDeleteOh yes indeed, I do plan to plant something in the front of the decking. I have flowers of some description there since I moved in, but the poppies were starting to get very straggly and were rotting and the burdock had died off and just had the prickly seed heads. The ground is currently too hard to dig as it has been so dry, but hopefully once we have had a bit of rain, and when I am brave enough to go to a garden centre (still avoiding all shops) then I will get something to plant in there. :-)
