Pond and Insect Life

I will have to do a proper catch up post soon, but in the meantime, these two dragon flies were spotted near the pond yesterday.

I believe this is the Yellow-Winged Darter

This largish dragonfly was busy depositing eggs.

I am not positive about this one, but I think it is the Gold-ringed Dragonfly.

A grasshopper, not sure what particular one it is.

  1. Fantastic sightings, quite envious as my pond has gone quiet.
It is a female Dark Bush cricket, not a grasshopper. You can tell by the long antennae.
    Keep safe, well and smiling😁

    1. Thank you, I did wonder if it was a cricket, but because I am used to the NZ ones which tend to be black, I thought it must be a grasshopper. :) My pond had gone quiet, but it seems to have sprung back into life the last few days. Perhaps they have enjoyed the rain and now it is sunny again, it has brought them all out?

  2. Weta. I know I know - its in UK - but its hard to judge size and looks for all the world (to un untrained eye) like a weta. Those stripey dragonflies are decorative aren't they?!

  7. Lovely to see the dragonflies. We had lots when we lived north of Kaitaia but I haven't seen any for ages.

  9. Are the first two are in fact Damsel Flies? The green one is a corker.

    1. I looked it up in an insect book, and Mr Google, if I remember rightly, I could be wrong with identifying the type of dragonfly, but it was a lot bigger than a damselfly, although I first thought that was what it was.

    2. Oops. For some reason I didn't see the name on your photo. Thanks for pointing it out.
