Butterflies Galore!

I don't think I have ever seen so many butterflies in one place ever before.  Yesterday, while standing at the new garden office building we have been having built we saw what would be probably at least 50 if not 100 butterflies flying and landing on our fig tree and also on the sunflowers.  It was incredible and they were there again this morning.  What an amazing spectacle and a real delight.  I managed to capture some of them on film.  Rather a few butterfly photos coming!

On the sunflowers.

Beautiful Red Admirals.

A few flowers...

Loving this rose.

Cyclamen under the plum tree.

We have a lot of these growing wild in the garden, mostly in the orchard, but also round the bottom of a few trees, and along our bank.

  1. Our neighbour has a Buddleia in her garden so we don't see many butterflies in ours, lovely photo's. I wish I could get cyclamen growing in our clay soil, if I plant them they only last 1 season, I have loads in pots which come back every year.

    1. I've got Buddleias as well, but they don't seem to attract as many butterflies as the fig. I really was astounded by the sheer amount of butterflies. The cyclamen are all over our garden, especially in the orchard and are so pretty.

  3. Lovely butterfly photos, especially the sunflower ones! I wish we had red admirals and commas in our Auckland garden. We do see the occasional monarch, lots of cabbage whites and common blues though.

  4. What gorgeous photos of the butterflies. May I please use your 'wings closed' photo for my blog? Probably a 'NITE NITE' picture.
