Isle of Wight Holiday - Day Seven, Part One.

Our last full day on the island.

We decided to walk part of the Red Squirrel Trail (used to be called the Sunshine Trail) from Wroxall to Ventnor.  The trail is along what used to be the old Railway line and is a lovely easy and enjoyable trail to do.

It was nice a shaded in parts with the sun shining through.

Some beautiful scenery over the downs.

We stopped in Old Shanklin for lunch at the Pink Tea Rooms again as we knew they allowed dogs, and we enjoyed our Cream tea there the day before.  Rather indulgent I know, but we certainly walked if off on the way home as we decided to do the Worsley Trail, which was no where near as easy, or well marked!

The first part was okay, walking through fields...

Spotting lots of butterflies.

It then got a bit tough as there were very few markers and the markers we did find had no indication on them of which part of the trail it was, they were just arrows, and tended to point in various directions!

Fantastic views as we climbed quite high.

A fork in the path, but which way to go!

One of the few arrows, with no clear clue as to quite where it was pointing to.

Finally came across the Cooks Castle marker stone, so we knew we were on the right track.

Aha, finally the village of Wroxall.

It took us almost twice as long to get back to Wroxall along this trail as it did to get to Shanklin, but it was fun and I really enjoyed it as did the dogs, although poor little Percy had to be carried some of the way when there was a bit too much overgrowth for him to manage.  We need to be mindful that he is after all a small blind dog who has been on Chemo since January!

  1. Such beautiful scenery, shame the signage wasn't as good as anticipated.
