Sunday Summary

Depression....how does one know if they are depressed because they are so unhappy or unhappy because they are depressed?  I know what it was that set me off on this downward spiral - yet again more disappointment...but could it make me feel THIS low?  How much does continual every day 24 hour pain contribute to this feeling - quite a bit I am sure.  I guess then another question could be asked...is this increased pain due to depression, OR is the depression a result of the increased pain.  I mean how long can one continue to cope with pain all the time?  It is not so much the intensity, just the fact that it is ALWAYS there and is spreading.  Nothing has worked so far, not even the 'miracle' CBD oil that has helped so many other people with amazing results, even people I actually know.  Sigh.

The weather the last couple of weeks hasn't helped either, it seems we have reverted to a usual English summer...overcast, damp and windy at times.  I think Mother Nature listened to all those moaning complaining about having an actual summer for once and thought 'ungrateful so and so's, I 'll give them what the want a typical English summer instead' and with a click of the fingers the temperature plummeted and that is what we have, greyness and rain on and off, although the greyness seems to be more of an 'on'.  But moving on...

The rose garden has taken a battering and needs a good tidy up, but there are still a few flowers giving some beauty.

A little bee was taking advantage of this rose.

Ingrid Bergman is looking lovely and seems to be enjoying this worse weather as has only fairly recently started to flower.

In my son's garden:  (Who incidentally has just started his own gardening and cooking blog.  If you missed my post the other day your can find it by clicking here:  Growing and Baking)

His gladioli came out later than mine so didn't get destroyed by the sudden bad weather.

His chilli pepper is growing well.

Honey suckle is coming out, it must be a slightly different variety than mine as they have long since finished flowering

A self-seeded sunflower.

The runner beans are still producing a profusion of flowers, so hopefully a lot more beans to come yet.  My beans have almost finished - again I think mine have reacted badly to the change in weather.

He is getting an amazing supply of tomatoes and I came home with a bag of tomatoes, some beetroot, potatoes, onions, carrots and white radish.

Beetroot - I cooked two of these and we had one with lunch today.

Very tasty tomatoes, again we had some for lunch today.

Carrots

These have such a lovely flavour

White radish, which I think are called Daikon

Again we had some of this for lunch.  I must see what else I could do with it.

Potatoes, some of which we will have for dinner.

Onions, again we will have some of these with dinner.

Back to my garden:

Walking round the garden today

A few of the roses in flower, this one has a lovely scent.

The rose garden is in dire need of a weed and tidy up so I am going to try and make an effort to do a little bit everyday...that way I also get to 'smell the roses'.

This plant has continued to grow!

We have blueberries!  First year any have ripened.  I will pick a few in the morning.

My Dalmation beans are still producing a few - next year I will stagger the planting, but it is a bit late now to plant more.

I have also moved my rhubarb pots as they are not ripening or growing as well as they used to.  They were moved late last year by my husband and I think it was too shaded for them.

While grocery shopping today I saw that there was a 25% off sale on clothing so I got a few needed items.

A pair of jeans - I thought with the colourful floral embroidery they would help to brighten me up.  A couple of cheap t-shirts, a pair of black leggings, and two pairs of grey stretch trousers.  These are actually 'school uniform' trousers, but they are nice and comfortable and great to wear round the house and also very cheap!  Plus a black cardigan.  I have needed a simple black cardigan for a while, so was pleased to get this on sale.

Perhaps this wasn't absolutely necessary, but it was also on special, and I do like wooden chopping boards, and my current plastic one is starting to look rather worn.

This wasn't necessary, but I do enjoy reading Peter May and this is his newest book out.

I have two pairs of these trainers/converses and they were looking filthy. They are a few years old now but very comfortable so I thought I would try soaking them and then washing them.   They have come up really well, so I should now be able to get a bit more use out of them yet.

As it turns out I have had a pretty good day.  The sun came out this afternoon, so the washing dried on the line well.  I have achieved a few jobs that needed doing, including de-scaling the kettle.

Thank you for taking the time to read my ramblings, if you have made it this far.  Sometimes it is good to let out your thoughts, and also write just what you have achieved in a day, as then things don't feel so helpless/hopeless?

Have a good week.

  1. Sorry to hear you are not feeling any better, I totally understand as I suffer from bouts myself, and find it really hard sometimes. I hope things improve for you soon.
Lovely to see your beautiful flowers, and your fresh produce looks wonderful.

  2. So sorry to hear you are not feeling good. Would it be worth finding a support group in your area, it might help with pain management? Some of the Peter May stories are based on the Isle of Lewis where I live, there is a tour that you can go on which looks quite interesting for those that read his books. Gerard enjoys his books.

  3. Veggies and flowers look terrific!

Depression hurts in so many ways, and I can see how the pain feeds into it. I hope you can find some relief.
