I spent a very industrious few hours in the garden today.
The raised vegetable beds needed serious attention.
I dug up some onions in the process which I will be having with dinner tonight.
Looking better. I have left in some spring onions (some of which I picked to have with lunch today) and the chard.
I also dug over my compost bins, but none of it is ready yet sadly. I think they just don't get hot enough unfortunately as although when I built them last year they weren't shaded, by the height of the summer they are when all the big trees in the neighbours garden come into leaf.
Pretty blossom on some of the trees.
What to do with this area... I am thinking a fairly large feature garden with a bird bath, roses and logs and rocks etc... that will also mean I will have a bit less lawn to mow as well.
Yes I mowed the lawn as well.
A good very productive day in the garden, and I am pleased with what I achieved.

You must have an enormous garden. That was a good job on the raised beds.
ReplyDeleteI have half an acre, so not that big, but it feels pretty big as it is on a hill, so not easy to mow.
DeleteOoh, lots of room to play with in the redesigning of that bit of your garden. I look forward to seeing how it looks later on. We have recently moved and discovered, horrified, that our entire garden is on top of builders' rubble from demolished stable and demolished "old house" which makes planting plans changeable!!
ReplyDeleteOK, 'fess up - how come you managed to grow spring onions over the winter?! I don't remember the IoW being that sub-tropical!!
I need to mow the lawn here - not too challenging as about 90% of it is moss and I am happy to leave it that way for ease of mowing :)
Pure neglect on the part of the spring onions. The part of the island I live on is very sub-tropical! ;) Some days when others in the UK had snow I was able to sit out on my deck eating lunch in a t shirt.
DeleteArghh builders rubble, yes that is a nuisance, our first house was very much like that and very frustrating. I hope you are settling in well, I need to catch up with your blog. :)
