Night time Wildlife

Well I have the camera working...I need to learn more about it know to see if I can improve the positioning etc.  But in the meantime it is interesting to see the wildlife visiting the garden.  I knew Mr Badger was, but I didn't realise the fox visited so often!  I have several videos the camera took throughout the night, these are the best three.

Now for my rant on the horrible new blogger interface.

It seems I have no choice now but to use the new blogger format.  Needless to say I am not impressed with it.  Obviously the various platforms on the internet such as blogger and the dreaded FB etc... had too much time on their hands during the Covid-19 lockdowns and so have decided to update to NOT 'improved' versions, which look far too much like apps for my liking, especially as I only use my computer.  The whole format seems to be very 'dumbed down' (but then I am sure that is the ulterior motive for many things nowadays), yet at the same time not as user friendly.  Also what is with the having to agree to 'redirect notice' & 'The page you were on is trying to send you to' the when clicking on one of the blogs on your reading list.  Of course I want to go to that blog, I've clicked on the link!  This 'new improved (NOT) feature' is just a pain in the proverbial!

I have a feeling I will be using the computer and the various platforms far less than I used to, as I just don't like these new UNimprovements. (yes I know that isn't a word, but they certainly aren't improvements in my opinion!)

  1. Well done you. What exciting captures. Try and place your camera along the path of travel or at an acute angle, rather than perpendicular to the path. It will give your camera a chance to detect and record, whereas a creature crossing the camera’s path can soon be gone, if moving quickly, resulting in short or blurred shots.

    1. Thanks for the tip. I've got limited objects to place the camera on...but have tried moving it around a bit, subsequent videos weren't quite as good, so I will keep experimenting.

  2. Wow, it was amazing to see the wildlife in your garden. I am not a fan of the new blogger either.

    1. It is so interesting to see what is wandering around at night, and also confirmed my suspicions about the 'pot hole' makers!

  3. How thrilling to have wildlife in your garden like that - although I (being very chicken-hearted) would probably think twice before going outside at nighttime!

    1. Oh I wouldn't worry about going out, they would run in the opposite direction if you happened to see them, which is probably why when I have gone out at night I haven't seen them at all.

  4. Being a useless tech person, when my blogger switched itself over months ago i assumed i was going to be stuck with this new one so left it. Phone updates do the same, change the appearance of everything and take away the familiar and easy. My boring refrain is that the tech ceases to be a tool for our lives and we become a tool of the tech. The worst part of being changed over early was the daily changes in the way things worked - and it's still chamging. We are also going through an enormous database and electronic filing switchover at work (same refrain) and they too are throwing out the obvious to be replaced by some new symbols that are 'intuitive'. I'm not sure who should be the arbiter of intuitive - the people who created these ideas, or those of us having to relearn how to use them.

    1. So often it just seems to be a case of 'change for the sake of change' and more often than not I don't see any real improvements, and often it seems they have gone backwards.

  5. Unfortunately I couldn't play the three videos. The whole idea of the camera is fascinating though. I'm wondering if I have any animals wandering around here. I have to say that I'm perfectly happy with the new interface which I've been using since it appeared on my laptop on day 1.

    1. Did you try clicking on the play button twice Graham? I have to click the play button twice to get it to play. The first time it just appears as a black screen, then the second time it plays...not sure if that is because it is 'loading'. Just a thought, not sure if anyone else has had problems?

Glad you are happy with the new interface. I still don't like it, but that is just me :) as I am not keen on all the drop down buttons etc... that so many different platforms are starting to use.

    2. Well I clicked on them this morning and they worked. Perhaps they remembered yesterday's click? Whatever they are very interesting. I'm fascinated to know just what I would find if i did that. I bet it would all be cats. There are dozens around here - many feral.

  6. The fantail in your header picture is fantastic! I saw my only badgers on a visit to Scotland a few years ago - a fabulous experience. The cull I read about seems particularly ill-advised.
