Restless

Restless she waits.  Nothing is as it was, never will it be again, at least not to her, nor to those close to her, not that she knows this.

The sun is shining, bird song can be heard, but she is not comforted by these no-longer familiar sights and sounds. Her daughter is sitting near her, but there is no recognition or at least very little today. She can hear dogs barking, not in an annoying noisy way, just playful and happy as they run together over the fields across the way.  To her however, they are annoying.  Woof, woof, she cries out.  Shut Up!  She yells loud and angry.  She starts counting softly under her breath, but gets louder and louder and more agitated.  Counting sometimes calms her, it brings about a sense of order, but it seems to work less and less as time goes by, certainly it isn't helping this time.  The 'lady' beside tries to distract her but it doesn't work.  She gets more and more agitated.  Restless and bewildered she waits.
